Once-Off Holidays On December 31, 1999 and January 2, 2000 were declared public holidays to accommodate the Y2K changeover, and January 3, 2000 was automatically a public holiday because the previous holiday was a Sunday. On May 2, 2008 was declared a public holiday when Human Rights Day and Good Friday fell on the same day on March 21, 2008.
