Bangladesh celebrate Victory day (Bengali: Bijôy Dibôsh) as the national holiday on December 16. In the year 1971,Pakistani Army surrendered to the Indo-Bangladeshi army in Dhaka, ending the 9 month-long Bangladesh liberation war. General AAK Niazi, the Commanding officer of Pakistan Army forces located inBangladesh, surrendered his forces to Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Aurora, the Allied forces commander.

Every year the Government, different organization and institutions take elaborate programmes to celebrate the day on a befitting manner. The national flag is hosted in all important offices, buildings, institutions and shops. All important places are tastefully decorated. Meetings and seminars are held to explain the importance of the day. India also commemorates victory over Pakistan on the same day in 1971 ,so India also celebrate Vijay Diwas on 16 December.
